Thanks for your replies.

Yes, I have loaded all the modules, and they all work fine. I don't mean
shutting off the fans, but rather slowing them down to an acceptable speed
so that there isn't a high-pitched whir all the time. Windows ACPI slows it
down appropriately.

And I do have the flags set right.
