Wine on E520 no network connection

I am trying to run a Windows utility on my ThinkPad E520, which
configures a managed TP-Link switch.  This utility works fine in Wine on
my desktop and also a VirtualBox VM, running Windows 10, on the E520. 
However, I cannot get it to work in Wine on this ThinkPad.  The utility
tries to scan for the switch, but sees nothing.  Any idea what I can
check?  Are there any issues with the computer & Wine?
