lenovo is testing their hardware with linux (the thinkpad series). But 
normally it is not
providing more support, simply because the market for notebooks with 
linux is just to small.

IMHO firmware, open, is useless, there is sooo much logic integrated in 
all circuits, even
if all firmware is open, you can't never be sure that there is not an 
alternativ operation mode, or
an other mgmt-cpu.
