I have one of these X61T, which I haven't touched in quite a few years.
I'm pretty sure it used the "wacom" driver.  I never tried running wayland on it.
Web searches for "wacom wayland" turn up some interesting results.

I'm not sure the X61T _ever_ worked with something other than the stylus.  I don't remember ever trying finger touch on it.

Hmm... this website (https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/MultiTouch) says maybe.
