Jim, i would recommend Damn small linux, I set up an installation page for the tecra 730xcdt.but the OS stuff will still apply to you and it is the fastest linux on older Toshibas that I have found. Also, if you need to boot from a cd, there is a section on my page on using a very easy boot tool called Smart bootmanager. The URL is:
