Are you using the CONFIG_SND_INTEL8X0M driver then ? I suggest not to use it and use the CONFIG_SND_INTEL8X0. Actually I think the modem blocks the sound when using the CONFIG_SND_INTEL8X0M Could you do a lspci or something ? PS : I have a M30 not M35X.
