From your Xorg.log: (EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/mouse No such device. (EE) Mouse1: cannot open input device (EE) PreInit failed for input device "Mouse1" No core pointer Fatal server error: failed to initialize core devices So...do you have a mouse? Are you sure it works? A few things you can do is to look for things like: /dev/mouse /dev/mouse0 /dev/mice /dev/input/mice (and whatever else is in /dev/input/) Then, you may try for example: $ cat /dev/input/mice (then you move the mouse, if you see some output, fine! that is your mouse). Let us assume your mouse is /dev/input/mice, then you edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf by replacing /dev/mouse with /dev/input/mice. If this doesn't help, maybe you will need to load some kernel modules, like usbmouse. Finally, please please please, *fill a bug report on your distribution* (for slackware look http://slackware.com/contact/) summarising your problem, your computer and mouse model and (if you solve it) how you solved the problem.
