In general I'd agree with Rex on that, though it is
to say, that Ubuntu - which has been proposed by
others - has a LiveCD too.
Judging from your mail-adress and your name I somehow
suspect, that you might want (or even need) greek
language support. If latter should be an important
criterium of choice for you, then somehow it's a whole
different story!
There is a greek (unofficial) Knoppix-derivative
called
"Knoppel" which you might have a look at - though I
have no personal experience with it.
What I can tell you from personal experience is this:
I've installed a Knoppix-derivative called "Kurumin"
to HDD, which becomes a basic "Debian unstable" (fully
compatible with Debians apt-get). After installing all
the greek-language packages and trying to fiddle
around
with configuration, greek-support in KDE is very poor
(next to none greek in KDE-menus and greek keyboard
unusable). This in contrast to "Slackware", where
after
installing necessary packages and following some
configuration-tips I'd found on the web, greek support
is next-to-perfect! (Most KDE-menus in greek, keyboard
ok!)

An .iso-file is a CD-image, which you can burn on CD
(NOT AS DATA, but as an image!!!)
