firstly they're not my patches. :)

- i'm almost sure that the patch will work as long as the only diff between 
the machines is the frequency of cpus. Sorry for the unavailability of the 
backtrace. the original patch that i had applied was for the 2.6.12 kernels. 
That had already worked well except "the division by zero" bug which was 
afterwards solved by M. Thiele. I had found the original here:

All is written in the README file, except that you have to apply the patch for 
the bug before compiling the modules. Follow the instructions, apply the 
final patch and load the modules.

- You can of couse load the modules if they exist, but be sure that no 'ac' or 
'battery' support is compiled into the kernel. Make them modules if you want, 
because you'll compile them away from the kernel in the scope of the tarball.
