Linthium ion batteries are almost universal in laptops these days. 
John's comment regarding them is correct.

What your partner is referring to, Cesar, are the earlier generation
Nickel-Cadmium batteries that were common a decade ago.  Ni-Cds would
get a 'memory' if they were kept fully charged all the time; they
required a periodic deep discharge to lose the memory.
