[tlinux-users:07673] Any tips for old Satellite Pro?

My first post here.

I was lucky enough recently to be given an old Satellite Pro 430CDS.

Fortunately it also came with the FDD in an external caddy.

So far I have done a HDD installation of DamnSmallLinux, which worked
nicely but kept overwriting /etc/fstab every time it booted. Also, there
seemed to be quite a lot missing. I'm not getting at DSL, which I think
is a superb live-CD, but perhaps a bit too slim for a full installation
to be happy.

My next mission was to get Debian installed, which is what I use on my
other computers at home.

I eventually found a rescue floppy image that worked ("safe" from my old
Woody CDs) & I now have a base install of Debian Woody with kernel
2.2.20. It might sound old, but I ran the same on an old PC for 3 years
& it never, ever broke.

Having got this far, I suspect that I am doing quite well, but I was
wondering if anyone had any top tips from experience of installing &
using Linux on this model of laptop?
