Hi  I had a similar problem which appeared after a kernel update.  There are
threads about it on the ubuntu forums under the subject of "critical
temperature".

Get yourself a live cd version of some linu x distribution and try it for a
while.  Odds are there's just something wrong with the acpi module of your
current distro.  You could try acpi=off as a boot option also for a while.
