I don't think it is a distro related per se. I think that it is directly
related to how KDE handles the APIC capabilities of Toshiba laptops. I
had the problems described on my A70 when using kDE 3.4 with Mandriva
2006 and the latest official version of Kubuntu. They disappeared (and
APIC mostly works) after switching to Ubuntu 5.1. KDE seems to be the
common element. The problem is that if you are using a KDE centric
distro like Mandriva (where kde is the default) or Kubuntu, APIC itself
can appear to be the problem rather than KDE's management of the APIC
module.
