Hi,
I recently obtained an old Satellite (model 1625CDT) and
installed Ubuntu linux on it (v5.10 "breezy badger").
This system seems to run fine when booted with older kernels,
e.g. linux-2.6.8.1-6-386. However, when I use newer binary kernels
from Ubuntu, such as linux-2.6.10-6-386 or 2.6.12-10-386, the system
intermittently hangs at random times. There is no response from
the mouse/keyboard, the display freezes and the only option is
to forcibly power off (by holding the power button down for
several seconds). Has anyone else seen this behavior?
I'm going to try building the kernel from sources to see
if I can shed more light on where the lock up occurs.
Thanks,
Ed
