Hi Jens,

I'm not sure what kernel is used in both OpenSuse 10.1 and Kubuntu. I am
running Gentoo Linux. I'm not really sure if there were undertaken some
things in later kernel issues to include the none-acpi-conform smart
battery systems (SBS) of some notebooks, including the Toshiba L10.

Just give it a try and do a

 $ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state

as root. If this brings you no output but an error message, then your
kernel isn't supporting the SBS yet. I'd suggest to read the howto at my
homepage then ( www.minet.uni-jena.de/~ferdy ) which makes use of
Richard Townsends's sbs-patch and brought several people getting battery
status information, including myself ;)
