Congratulations on trying to move to a linux base.

See my post number 07739 about How I solved my overheating problems.
My overheating problem may not be what yours is but the net is full
of toshibas overheating and I believe that the major problem is blockage
of the cooling airways.

All that said I had no problems with cooling on my machine for 1.5 years
until the cooling airways started getting clogged. my post 07739 tells
how I handled that problem

As for the Phoenix bios. Unless later versions have changed you will
NOT be able to load the 'toshiba  or toshiba_acpi' modules as Phoenix
bios does not have the hooks to use those modules.

Hot keys
on my Satellite a75-226  the only combination that works is
FN + F7   increase brightness
FN + F6  decrease brightness

FnFX  routine will also not work on Phoenix Bios.
