Good catch. My bios was quite up to date and I knew I had never had problems
of that sort before. Also it was a creeping problem, getting worse as 
time ran on.

I will have to be a little more explicit about  what else to check but 
it never hurts
to blow out the dust around the heat sink and other areas of the machine.

In fact I am recompiling the entire 2.6.11 kernel  as I write  this and 
I had
to turn off  two othere desktops in the room to determine how much fan
noise that is being imitted  from the toshiba laptop I blew the  dust out
of two days ago.
It is quiet as a mouse.
