I managed, just over a year ago, to load SuSE Pro 9.x on a Portege M200.
It wasn't pretty--I had to PXE boot the system in order to load the
install image--but I managed it.
So I figured that loading Linux on the M400 would be easier, since it comes
with a CD/DVD drive built in.
No such luck, of course. I've tried Ubuntu 5.10 and SuSE Pro 10.0 and
neither recognize the hard drive. I *think* that this problem is caused
by the built-in RAID controller, but I have not yet tested that theory
because I'm still in the process of creating the ten (!) CDs required in
order to reload the system once I disable the RAID controller.
So, my questions:
- Does anyone have any experience to lend regarding the installation of
Linux on a Portege M400... or am I blazing the trail?
- Is there a Linux driver for the RAID controller used in the M400?
(I have not found any make/model/chipset-info in the docs so far,
so it has been difficult to go digging.)
My plan is to partition the drive so that I can dual-boot.
