Hi Brandon,

Modern distributions enable almost everything by default, so it is not
normal to recompile the kernel, you will only do that if you are testing
something very experimental. I would recommend you to try Knoppix or
Mandriva Live. Don't need to install them, just boot from cd and play
around with fnfx and toshiba_acpi module. If they do work, then there is
a bug in Kubuntu, please report it [1], although I won't expect this to
happen.

So either your BIOS is not supported by acpi_toshiba yet, or it is some
strange BIOS that won't be supported at all. I guess the best approach
is to contact the original developers [2] and inform them and just pray
that they have time and motivation for doing something about it.

Please, keep us informed on your developments so others can benefit from
your experience.

Cheers,

	Manuel.
