Mohammed,

First you need to get some Linux CDs (or DVDs).  The best way is to download them over the net using your existing setup.   There are many Linux distributions, so others will have their preferences, but I like these:
  - Fedora Core.  Currently Core5; Core 6 is due out in mid-October.  http://fedora.redhat.com/Download/ is one place to go for.  You want the images that end in .iso.  If CD, there will be 4 or 6 CD's worth.  The DVD image is bit-for-bit the same except it all fits on one DVD.  
  - Puppy Linux.  See http://puppylinux.org.  Puppy is a live CD -- once you have the .iso image and have it burned to a CD, you can boot right off the CD.  It's small -- 50-60M worth.

Once you have the .iso images downloaded, you need to fry the CDs.  Again, you can do this from XP.  

Once you have the CDs, you're ready to do Linux.  Couple decisions to consider ... do you want to wipe out your XP and make the machine all-Linux?  or do you want to dual-boot (keep XP on one partition and put Linux on another)?  

The reason I recommend Puppy is that you can defer these decisions.  Here's how:
	- Puppy boots from the CD and runs entirely in RAM.  It does _not_ mount your hard drive.  Meaning that your original XP installation remains unchanged.  If you want to go back to XP for any reason, pop the Puppy CD out and reboot (there will be a shutdown dialog about saving things; tell it no and it'll leave your hard drive alone).
	- Puppy allows you to install to several different kinds of media, including hard drive and USB sticks.  In 2.02 (most recent release), this is fairly automated and gives you plenty of warning before it writes, in case you get the jitters.
	All this allows you to get familiar with both Linux, and presumably your new hardware, without making any irrevocable changes.  If you have an internet connection and your Tecra has an ethernet port, these should configure and come up and work ... there's a dialog in the menu that allows you to nudge anything that didn't happen automatically.  I've found the wired ethernet interface to be pretty trouble-free, even on older laptops and even with PCMCIA cards (from web gander, your Tecra should have ethernet port built in?).  WiFi interface in all Linuxes is a bit more problematic... some work, some don't.  And Puppy isn't totally mature in this area ... I've gotten it to work with some laptops, not others.  


If you want to install a full-up Linux, then Fedora Core 5 is a good choice.  Simply boot from the first install CD or the DVD and follow the directions.  In the install dialog, you will be asked what to do with the existing XP partition.
