There is a KDE control module to configure the synaptics touchpad:

sudo apt-get install ksynaptics # in Kubuntu

You could also try the synclient program. Check out manual pages of 
synaptics, synclient and syndaemon. Actually, the touchpad is much more 
configurable under GNU/Linux than in Windows!
(Perhaps excessively configurable ;)
