Right now I am running FC5 and kernle 2.6.18-1.2239. But I have had
sound will all the kernels. A couple of things to keep in mind -
unless you load the OSS emulation modules, you will not be able to
run programs that use /dev/audio. Also, most distributions have the
sound turned way down or muted as the default setting. You have to
open a mixer and set the levels the first time, and then save the
settings. This is to protect both your ears and the hardware. I can
remember problems with feedback between the mic and speaker on
laptops that led to the current defaults. It was not a problem on
most desktops because few people booted the first time with a mic
plugged in...
