If you have /proc/acpi/toshiba, so you are using toshiba_acpi module...
Not omnibook module.

Try write "0" in this file, as:
#echo 0 >> /proc/acpi/toshiba/lcd
This value change brightness to MINIMUM. You can use other value too.
