I don't have the internet access to comply.  I also found that my backup was worthless, thanks to the R/W permissions across the partition.  The upgrade on my motherboard made the HP Driver obsolete, and I had to install SUSE four times before it was functional.  I still can't make LaTex work with Kile; as soon as I compile, the error log asks me if I compiled.  It has been a nightmare getting this laptop out of repair, though the repair was free, as Toshiba acknowledged some "problem."

If you are willing to do so, once KToshiba is installed, make sure that you load the omnibook module with the user=1 so a regular user can write to /proc/omnibook files

su -c "modprobe -q omnibook user=1 <other options>" 

Once loaded, launch KToshiba from a terminal and send the output to me please.
