Installing a 32 bit system is probably simpler. While perhaps trickier
to set up than there 32 bit counterparts, many useful apps like flash
and openoffice seem to have decent support on 64 bit processors these
days[1]. When you make your decision to install, just remember you
can't upgrade your system from 32 bit to 64 bit. To change that you
have to perform a complete reinstall. Also, 64 bits doesn't improve
performance for most everyday desktop applications a whole lot, but
for applications with significant floating-point calculations like 3D
modelling, the performance boost may be worth the hassle. Ubuntu has
install cds for amd64 [and em64t][2].
