[tlinux-users:08402] Fingerprint Reader Happiness

I'm not under the impression that Toshiba laptops with fingerprint
readers are very common. I've got one on my A105-S4014 however and
perhaps the readers of this list are more likely to spring for such
snazzy technology than our Windows-using fellow Toshiba consumers. The
thinkfinger project [1] supports the PEK/SGS Thomson Microelectronics
fingerprint reader which is one of the two that Toshiba ships their
laptops with. The SGS Thompson device is connected internally via USB
and lshw gives me the following info on it:

Thinkfinger doesn't support the other reader that Toshiba ships which
is made by AuthenTec. Last year I had played around a little with
various packages and source code but without much success. I'm very
happy to report that at least on Gentoo all you have to do is emerge
the package and follow the directions regarding creating a fingerprint
image for each user and editing the PAM configuration [2]. I'm really
ecstatic that it just works (tm). I'm prompted with Password or swipe
finger: these days at login prompts. Anyhow, yeah just wanted to share
the joy and perhaps a tidbit of knowledge.
