[tlinux-users:08435] SP6100: I need the display specifications and some comments on running the latest Nvidia Linux driver on it,please

For some reason I cannot get my Linux distro (Zenwalk 4.4.1 and Puppy
2.15) to set the display resolution of my SP6100 to its native
resolution of 1600x1200.  This seems to be the result of the X Window
server not being able to read the laptop's EDID details and making a
(not very good) guess at its capabilities.  It thinks 1024x798 is fine
and I don't.

To correct this I seem to need the full specifications of the screen:
hsync and vsync rates, the pixel clock frequency and, if possible but
not critical, the hsync and vsync times and their polarity.  If there is
a simple program to read this data directly from the hardware I would be
happy to use it instead, whether it is written for Windows or Linux. 

Can I get this information?

Another problem:
I installed the latest Nvidia driver, 1.0-9631 or 1.0-9755 -  called
'nvidia' in the xorg.conf file - my screen grows mottled and then white
until I force the X server to stop.  If I change the driver to the open
source (I think) driver - called 'nv' in the xorg.conf file - the screen
behaves correctly.  Has anyone else seen this or can they explain what
is going on, please?
