I have a Satellite S2246 with a SATA harddrive, and had problems getting it to boot like you (with a 2.6.20-2 kernel, until I built these into the kernel. Your situation may be slightly different due to different hardware bridges, but it may be worth looking at the kernel docs, and seeing what you need in the kernel or initrd. For a no-initrd kernel on a Satellite S2246, build in: processor thermal sata_sil atiixp fan edd All I can remember from memory, is that in the 2.6.20-2 kernel, SATA drives needed edd, atiixp, and sata_sil (for my hardware). zentara -- I'm not really a human, but I play one on earth. http://zentara.net/japh.html
