The screen should be able to accept a 100 Hz input signal
but the hardware probably just discards 40 of those frames
and runs it at 60 Hz anyway so you don't actually gain
anything by running a typical LCD above 60 Hz (you just get
dropped frames if you try).

There are some LCDs that can run at higher refresh rates
without dropping frames but they're pretty rare and very
unlikely to be found in a laptop (i.e. you might have one
but you almost certainly don't).
