[tlinux-users:08682] Ubuntu Gutsy on Satellite P100

Hi,

I'm using a Satellite P100 (BIOS v2.40 still) with Ubuntu.
The biggest problem with this laptop series is the sound and ACPI. From 
scratch eigther ACPI or sound (with acpi=off) works, but not both together. 

Under Ubuntu Feisty, kernel 2.6.20 and earlier it was possible to patch the 
DTST load the new version with the img.initrd and everything was fine. But 
with the Upgrade to Ubuntu Gutsy and kernel 2.6.22  this method doesn't work 
anymore, see

It seems to work with several tricks under Mandriva and OpenSuse with kernel 
2.6.22 but till now the only way for Gutsy is to use the old 2.6.20 kernel 
from Feisty with custom DSDT.

I don't expect any help from this list, but maybe just an answer to the 
following:

Somewhen ago I heard that this whole problem has something to do with the 
integrated softmodem. The original DSDT from the Toshiba BIOS has a query for 
the OS type, and excludes something for "Linux". One of the tricks was to 
delete this part.
Why does Toshiba do that? They intentionally exclude a whole growing (and 
mostly experienced) community of Linux computer users?

And another question: Is there something like a general petition somewhere for 
more Linux support? Or does Toshiba et al wait till the whole Ubuntu 
community uses Dell?
