[tlinux-users:08713] I can not read/write the serial port

dear All,

I have a Toshiba satellite 4030CDT. 
I'm not able to write/read on the serial port COM1 . I have installed
two linux distributions to read/write the serial port but without
success. I have tried Xubuntu (xubuntu-6.06.1-alternate-i386.iso) and
fedora Core 4 in text mode(pay attention that you have to set
defaultDepth to 16 to see whole screen).

The tests with minicom or with the command: echo some_characters >
/dev/ttyS0 were without success: I can not see any character on the
display of another PC with Portmon freeware tool which monitors if some
data are coming from the Toshiba serial port.

My suspicion is that the Toshiba serial port driver is proprietary and
not standard and it needs maybe some particular drivers. Could you give
me some procedure to read/write on the Toshiba satellite 4030 serial
port under Linux?
