The Omnibook module is for a Phoenix BIOS.

I have that compiled into my kernel (not as a module) but
it does work on the Tecra M5 (which is a lot more recent
than 3 years).

The FnFx daemon does support brightness changing on mine as
well as generating events for Fn key combinations (and info
button and display button presses).
