Sync'ing all traffic between nodes

Hello all. I've been using UltraMonkey for a dual server setup. I have 3 servers behind a pair of ldirectord boxes all running CentOS 5.2. The connections that come in from the outside (go through ldirectord) are synchronized properly and when a failover happens, the connections remain open and running.
However, when a connection is started by the nodes behind the load balancers, and a failover occurs, the connections are dropped. I've managed to keep the connections running using conntrackd-tools, but I'm wondering if I setup something improperly with ldirectord / ultramonkey or if this is a limitation of UltraMonkey.
Ex:
Works:
outsidebox$ wget http://mycluster/bigfile.img
** wget runs, failover happens, connections are still running **
Fails:
lbnode1$ wget http://somehost/bigfile.img
** wget runs, failover happens, connections are dropped **
Thanks in advance!
