When I shut down my servers for maintenance I simply change the ldirectord.conf file and set the server weight to 0 Then I wait for the active connections (I use persistence) to clear out of the system. Once it's clear (roughly 15 minutes) I begin my maintenance. You can check your active connections like this /sbin/ipvsadm -Ln --sort --persistent-conn When the maintenance is done, I simply restore the original server weight. For example, imagine you want to temporarily remove one of a pair of real servers to allow for a hardware upgrade. My first thought was to use 'ipvsadm -d'. This successfully removes a real server. However, if I reboot that server, when it comes back up the UltraMonkey load balancer detects that the server is online and then reinserts it in to the cluster. In the end I shutdown heartbeat on the primary UltraMonkey load balancer, so that the secondary took over, then on the primary edited /etc/ha.d/ldirector.cf to remove the real server, started heartbeat on the primary, shut it down on the secondary so that the primary took over again, then did the same edit on the secondary and restarted it. It works, but is there a better way? Thanks in advance.
