Hmm, too bad I threw away the install allready, but here goes from my 
recollection:

1. ipforwarding
I would guess this is missing. When I got into the setup-screen for 
heartbeat or ldirectord, they started to complain this feature was 
missing and that the software would be useless without it.

2. /etc/init.d/
This is missing from the ubuntu-install. They are using:
/etc/default/ for the script config-files
/etc/.. for the service startup scripts

I'm not very clueless with linux, but this is a bridge too far for me 
:). I've made some steps with patching the kernel, however here again I 
ran into trouble. The kernel-source that was installed was *.*.12 and 
all I could get from the universe was *.*.11.

Like I said I got too depressed :)
