Questions on Ultra-Monkey init

I have 2 directors sending http/https traffic to 4 nodes (2 of the nodes
are in fact the 2 directors.  4 total boxes.  The directors heartbeat
over a second ethernet (cross over cable) and a serial cable.

Works fairly well, except failover seems flaky.  Sometimes not happening
sometimes both directors listing nodes with ipvsadm.  And now within the
last week there's a new problem that one director will start refusing
connections but still seems alive over the serial. Or, at least the
backup director would not takeover until I nixxed serial from config and
restarted everything.

One thing I'm definitely unsure about is what services should be started
via init scripts and what should not (I assume the others get started
when one box takes over)
Which of these should be started (from /etc/init.d):
  ipvsadm
  ldirectord
  heartbeat

Also, in ha.cf the listing of nodes should be just directors, right?
# box 1,2 are directors box 1,2,3,4 are http/https cluster
node  box1
node  box2
#node box3
#node box4

Running Debian sarge:
  ultramonkey/sarge uptodate 3-1um.1
