Running Directors and Real Servers on same physical machines?

Is is possible, and/or does anyone have any experience with running both the directors and the real servers on the same physical machines? As far as I can tell, after messing around with Linux-HA, it seems as though if a guy could run two instances of Linux-HA on each machine, then run the director in one instance, and a two-virtual-IP application in the other instance, it would work... any thoughts?
