If you're just using to run Linux, that's an overkill, and
a proprietary trap long-term (vmware will break on next kernel upgrade,
and sooner or later vmware-config.pl will break, unless you
upgrade your product -- VMWare VMs are not backwards compatible,
btw).

I do run VMWare, but am also aware of its limitations.

There are a ton of FLOSS virtualization solutions. If you're just
going to run Linux & Co, you should look into Xen. If all you need
is to run hundreds of VMs with the same kernel version, look at
Linux VServer patch.
