I need to try to make the issue for us a bit more clear. Basically gentoo does not have fixed releases, and we support in-place upgrades of packages. So if udev changes in a way that does not retain backward compatibility for a while, it will cause breakage for us. This is why we are asking that you continue supporting rules in /lib/udev for a while. Thanks for your consideration, William
