It should be still possible using an external TA (working like a modem) connected via a serial port (can be a serial-to-USB adapter) – should be cheaper than another computer, although you won't use your fritzcard. With serial port and PPP little has changed. I guess data connection should be also possible with the new ISDN stack, but I have never tried that.
