amarok2 uses phonon.  phonon has 2 backends:
phonon-backend-xine
phonon-backend-gstreamer

xine is (should be!) the default.  If you want to be able to play 
encumbered content, you need the plugins/addons installed for either 
xine (xine-lib-extras-nonfree) or gstreamer (not sure).
