What's the meaning of protocol item in keepalived.conf

The comment of protocol in the man page of keepalived.conf (v1.2.2) told
that only TCP is implemented. What's the meaning of protocol?

I saw LVS support UDP, does it mean that keepalived can't support UDP Real
Server If I use LVS-DR + keepalived?
