I don't know if this is a bug persay. I've been talking about this on the user list for a few years.

Essentially all of the howtos are a decade out of date and absolutly incorrect. I've been meaning to write a new one but haven't gotten around to it yet.

If it is a bug its an ancient one. You need to set the state to backup on both nodes and then the priorities will handle the the election.
when you set the state to master in the config it essentially forces the state to master. You can actually set a node to master with a lower priority and it will attempt to take over constantly this causes a loop nonstop failing over and failing back (A.K.A. The ping pong effect).

In all honesty I believe the option should be removed or be hidden and default to backup. Its usefully for testing purposes but in production you should always set the state to backup.
If you do that it will behave exactly as you expect it to.

BACKUP, listen to vrrp and stay BACKUP because of "nopreempt".

As I could not figure out how to search in the list-archives I try this way. (why is a mailman list hosted at sf.net?? -
mailman has such a ... useful webinterface)
Where do I post bugs? sf.net project page seems out of date (files, bugs). I found a new bug which I want to post...
