If you have a local firewall, verify that it doesn't drop the inbound VRRP advertisements from the other node (which would prevent Keepalived from seeing them): iptables -I INPUT 1 -p vrrp -j ACCEPT I assume that you've also checked the logs? If the keepalived process on receives an VRRP hello it doesn't like, it's generally going to be quite loud about it.
