A group seems to imply two or more instances. Is there any benefit in
being ably to configure a sync group with only one member? There
certainly is some overhead, albeit small, in using a sync group, so
using one with only one member seems unnecessary.

If there is a benefit in having sync groups with only one member, then
that can easily be reinstated.
