veritysetup format without --salt

Hi,

If 'veritysetup format <data_device> <hash_device>' is called without '--salt', will there a salt (from a random number generator) be used to calculate the digest? If yes, can you please point me to the spot in the veritysetup source code where the salt is generated or imported?
