took me a while, but now I'm working on this again.  I started the installer in tty and it finished with this:

Package installation was sucessful. To complete the installation, please
point your browser to the Web Configurator at http://127.0.0.1:18020. You
do not need an active Internet access in order to access the Web Configurator.

Since lynx is out, how do I do this without an X session?  I also have links.

You should start the installer with the following command:

---
sh dldrinstall.run -- --tty
---

This will launch the terminal (text) based version of the installer 
which have all the features of the graphical, browser based ones.
