It's possible that you could use the evlog-1.4.2-kernel2.4.20.patch witch evlog-1.6.0. If all you need is to forward syslog to evlog then you don't need to patch kernel with evlog patch. If you need to send events from the kernel to evlog via evlog APIs then you would need the kernel patch. Please take a look at this document http://evlog.sourceforge.net/linuxEvlog.html and look at evlog man pages start with man evlog If you have the sources, you could also take a look at evlog/kernel/test directory for examples how to log events from the kernel. For user space apps, look under evlog/user/lib/test directory. Regarding slog_fwd, do you have any error message when you run that command. What is your libc.so version? Modify libc.so.x in /etc/evlog.d/libevlsyslog.conf with your libc.so version.
