thank you for the pointer. I gave LiS 2.18 a try and got through a
native compile fine, except for some changes (probably harmless for
me). I ifdef'd the pci dma dac functions out. I haven't tried 2.18.1
yet, so do not know the outcome.

I also had to export some additional kernel symbols from my linux
src tree. So far none of the changes have bitten me.

The changes were directed primarily by my attempting to load LiS
into the kernel. So far so good.
