I think Erich didn't not explain his reasons very well, but I know from
private mail and experience with changes for /root/.profile in the
latest cycle 6.1.2  that moving root and config into initrd can be a
problem.

About root/.profile - it isn't possible to upgrade this file with our
tools (upgrade, apkg -u) if it's pat of initrd because initrd is a
different package. Therefor i added back root.lrp again with the only
content of .profile.

Another issue is that initrd does not have dependencies as any other
lrp. It can't because the system is not up to load packages needed.
But what if we want to add an dependency, like speeding up upgrade with
axel instead of wget?

I know Andrw have had reasons to make the move Erich is claiming about;
maybe he explain his ideas  to find a solution, either (partly) revert,
keep or something else. 
I have no objections on this issue in neither way, but  I think
we  should have a common ground for further development.
